Electrolysis

Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal which permanently treats unwanted hair. At Meticulous we use computerised technology so you can be confident of receiving treatments which are finely tuned to suit each person's pattern of hair growth and pain tolerance.

What is electrolysis?

A fine probe is inserted into each hair follicle followed by the passage of a tiny electric current through the tip of the probe. As the current takes effect, the operator is able to ease the hair from the follicle.
At the conclusion of each treatment a healing ointment is applied. Effective electrolysis renders the follicle incapable of producing another hair.

How does electrolysis work?

The Meticulous salon is one of the few in Victoria which uses computerised technology to blend together the two different treatments available:

  • Thermolysis, which cauterises the blood supply to the hair using high frequency heat (much like microwave heat).
  • Electrolysis, which uses galvanic current to cause a chemical decomposition of the hair root.

For the first few months of treatment, newly visible hairs are treated at each session (the growth pattern of hair takes twelve weeks). A proportion of hairs must be treated more than once before they respond to treatment, so that the term "progressively permanent" is the most appropriate description of this method of hair removal.

How long will it take?

You will probably be advised to come at least once a week for the first 3-8 weeks (depending on the size of the area to be treated), then fortnightly for a period of time and as the procedure starts to become progressively permanent, every 3-4 weeks.
You will also notice that at first the appointment time may be from 30 to 60 minutes but as time goes by your appointment will be for shorter periods of time.

Most people get good results within 6-12 weeks and conclude their treatment program, depending on the size of the area treated, within one to two years.
